Independent Living Services (ILS)

The Program Goals

Providing an opportunity to learn and practice independent living and life skills in a safe, supportive, and stable living environment.

Program Description

Our program is designed to provide opportunities for young men to learn the skills necessary to function successfully as an adult as they approach and enter adulthood all within a closely supervised residential setting. Residential Youth Counselors are on site 24/7 to ensure the safety and compliance with program rules, expectations, policies and procedures as well as to provide ongoing support and guidance as youth complete high school or high school equivalency. They are engaged, through careful planning, in post- high school options such as community college, job training programs, military, etc. There is a moderate level of direct supervision compared to most BRS residential programs; however, there is an increased level of responsibility expected of program residents. There are required multiple weekly treatment groups, weekly paperwork and a demonstrated ability to keep themselves organized through a personal calendar or planner.

The Youth

All of the youth participating in this program are referred by the Department of Human Services (DHS). Youth must be male and at least 16 years of age living in the Portland Metro (Multnomah or Clackamas Counties) though some exceptions can be made for youth living in other Oregon counties depending upon circumstances. Most youth have a history of multiple DHS placements and a history of behavioral and/or emotional difficulties.

Youth Eligibility and Referrals

Eligibility is determined by the Department of Human Services with referrals to our program by the youth’s Child Welfare Caseworker. The Program Director, Jamie Nash-Sedda, may be contacted by calling (503) 777-6317 x 4 or by email at jnash-sedda@theinnhome.org. Referral information packets may be faxed to (503} 774-2003.
